Housing Counseling Grant Supports Colorado Households

CHFA recently submitted a report to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on the impact of the most recent round of funding received from HUD’s Housing Counseling Grant Program. CHFA was awarded $544,006, which supported 11 subgrantees throughout the state from October 2024 to September 2025. During that time, those organizations provided housing counseling services to 1,399 Colorado households.

Housing counseling offered through the Comprehensive Housing Counseling Grant Program supports a range of needs, from counseling first-time homebuyers, promoting financial literacy, preventing foreclosure and eviction, providing resource connection services for unhoused individuals, and offering assistance for older adults.

CHFA Hosts Housing Credit Summit

‍CHFA hosted the 2026 Housing Credit Summit on Tuesday, February 3rd, in Denver, which convened affordable housing developers, investors, and stakeholders for a day of networking and learning. The theme of the 2026 event was Expanding Horizons, and throughout the day, attendees heard about recent expansions to state and federal Housing Tax Credits, current market dynamics, and trends in statewide demographics. Presenters also celebrated the 40th anniversary of the federal Housing Tax Credit’s creation, including reflections on four decades of the program’s impact across Colorado.

Slides from the Summit are available to download on the CHFA website at chfainfo.com/hcs, including a presentation from Michael Novogradac’s keynote remarks and from Colorado’s State Demographer, Kate Watkins.

Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Finance Programs Launched

‍ ‍

On February 23rd, CHFA began accepting applications from eligible lenders for the Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Credit Enhancement Program and the ADU Interest Rate Buydown Program. Both are part of the ADU Finance programs authorized by HB24-1152 to support the construction or conversion of ADUs for low- and moderate-income borrowers and/or tenants in ADU Supportive Jurisdictions. CHFA is administering the ADU Finance programs on behalf of the Office of Economic Development and Internation Trade (OEDIT).

The launch of the Credit Enhancement and Interest Rate Buydown programs follows a competitive application round for the ADU Relending Program that concluded in January. The Relending program will provide loans to eligible nonprofits, public housing authorities, and community development financial institutions (CDFIs) offering financing to eligible borrowers for the construction or conversion of ADUs. More information about ADU Finance programs is available at chfainfo.com/adu.

CHFA Supports DU Housing Innovation Center

The University of Denver recently announced the launch of its Center for Housing Research and Innovative Solutions, which CHFA supported through a philanthropic donation. The Center will focus on housing research, policy evaluation, and professional education. It is modeled after successful housing centers on the coasts at University of California, Berkeley, New York University, and Harvard, and is designed to meet the specific needs of the Rocky Mountain West.

In addition, in recent years, CHFA has invested in Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Affordable Housing Institute, CU Denver’s Affordable Housing Certificate Program, and the University of Denver’s Executive Certificate in Affordable Housing. Investments like these seek to help address the demand for affordable housing industry professionals in Colorado.

Introducing Colorado Renter Rewards

Gov. Jared Polis, the Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), and CHFA announced the launch of Colorado Renter Rewards. The program allows residents of properties supported by the Proposition 123 Equity program to earn cash back for on-time rent payments and share in the property’s equity as it grows over time. It is being implemented through a partnership between OEDIT and CHFA, and is powered by Stake, a financial technology company.

Financing Supports Jet Wing Flats

Sponsored by Commonwealth Development and Solid Rock Community Development Corporation, Jet Wing Flats in Colorado Springs will include 68 new affordable apartments serving families with incomes from 30 percent to 80 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). In addition to state and federal Housing Tax Credits allocated in 2024, CHFA recently supported the development with a $15.5M construction bond loan and $7.1M in financing through its Partnership-to-Perm Affordable Bond Loan (PAIRABLE).

Building Legacy Series Concludes

The final event in the 2025 Building Legacy: A Black Homeownership Series was held Wednesday, February 25th, at Spangalang Brewery in Denver.
